Cumberland Council faced the challenge of rising energy costs at Workington Leisure Centre, where a solution was needed to support the operation of two swimming pools, lighting and their heating and ventilation system. The goal was to reduce operational expenses whilst aligning with its Carbon and Energy Management Plan.

Challenges
Sport England Grant funding provided the council with the opportunity to install renewable energy infrastructure to deliver long-term financial benefits and protect the operation of the centre from rising costs.

Love Solar Solution
Love Solar designed a 160kW roof-mounted solar pv system, including:
380 x 445W Jinko solar panels
2 x Solis 80kW 5G Pro inverters

Installation Process
The installation had to be completed without disrupting the centre’s daily operations or affecting the customer experience. The installation also needed to integrate with existing building services to ensure reliable performance and minimal maintenance.

Results & Performance
The project was completed within the planned two-month timeframe, delivering a system that now provides 20% of Workington Leisure Centre’s electricity needs. Furthermore, the project has achieved significant operational cost savings that
